Catalunya Square

Tourist attractions in Barcelona start from Plaça de Catalunya in other words Catalunya Square. It's best known as being the heart of the city. In Barcelona city, you can access anywhere from this square. All buses or metro lines nearly pass by this square. You can walk through Las Ramblas street in a couple of minutes or you can walk through Passeig de Gracia street. If you want you can walk to El Born district which is one of the famous streets in Barcelona. 

If you want to meet a friend you can point this square as a meeting area. Catalunya Square is always full of people. It's nice to spend some time there and watching the people passing by and the birds flying around you. Generally, big shopping malls are located in this area and you can get on airport buses at this square. In the middle of the square you can see the stairs statue stands reverse. Around the square you will see Apple Store and some Hard Rock cafes. We highly recommend you have a rest if you like at Zurich cafe stands in the middle of the square. In Christmas time there is always a big ice skating area and you can have enjoyable time with many people at the same time. All outstanding buildings stand at the square to be discovered. If you like to get on ''hop off hop on'' buses the square is the best place.

Passeig De Gracia Street

You may have heard this district name so many times in our previous posts. We mentioned some places located at this street. Passeig de Gracia is a famous location in Barcelona city where many tourists visit and locals spend their most of the time during a day. What can you do in Passeig de Gracia? There are many good restaurants and cafes to relax when you get tired. This location is also connects Plaça De Catalunya and Carrer Gran de Gracia. Passeig de Gracia is known as the most expensive street in Barcelona city. This street contains many shops, restaurants, historical buildings, special pieces of art and business areas. 

If you are shopaholic and love expensive pieces then Passeig de Gracia is the right place for you. For instance, Chanel or Prada are the only few examples for luxury places in Barcelona city. The fashion's heart beats in Passeig De Gracia street. On Passeig de Gracia, you can see Casa Battlo or Casa Mila. If you don't want to waste much money, you can go for a walk as it contains big and green area. It has got fresh air. Don't forget to have a look at the street lights. They make take your attention. Passeig De Gracia is a street that you can access easily from Las Ramblas and Plaça De Catalunya by walking for a short time. Las Ramblas Street

La Rambla or Las Ramblas street, the heart of Barcelona city. The city's heart beats in this main avenue. People at least pass by Las Ramblas streets once in a day. 
The street is popular and known by all the tourists travelling in Barcelona city. It's noticed that it connects Plaça de Catalunya with Christopher Colombus Monument at Port Vell. Being crowded day and night has affected the cafes and restaurants nearby the street positively. So popular the street is, so high the prices are. Of course not all the restaurants are too much expensive. There are lots of places to eat and drink at reasonable prices. At both sides of the street, you can come across many florists, street artists, small shops where you can buy souvenirs and try delicious ice cream or pancakes. There is a famous saying about this beautiful city by Spanish Poet, Federico Garcia Lorca; ''the only street in the world which I wish never end''.

To the north of Las Ramblas it lies Plaça de Catalunya where there are many shops and cafes. To the east of Las Ramblas you will see Barri Gotic, the centre of the old city of Barcelona. Also, to the west you will come across a very different area called El Raval which was famous for its night clubs, crime and prostitutes and can be still seen a place that should be careful.

When we look through the history of Las Ramblas we can see that the construction started on an extension of the city walls in order to include La Rambla and El Raval in 1377. After 63 years, the stream was diverted to run outside the new walls and La Rambla started to turn into a street. The trees lying on both sides were firstly planted in 1703.
